The recession

The recession is what it is, a recession. A time to take a step back and look at any given sitaution and take a strong look at it. Wether its in a house hold, you own your own company, or your the boss that has to tell your employies not to come in on Monday. When the economy is good its just know as what ever, but when it is bad people break and give it a label. The recession is a time to look over your sitaution and come up with a plan and make it better. As humans we feel the need to buy things that have no use and disguard them after a time period, but if we were to save that money everytime instead of spending it, the recession would be called a vacation and not a time of disspear. So with the recession in full effect will people remember it well enough not to let it happen to them again. I know the next time theres a recession I'm going on vacation. So start your nest egg for a raining day now so later when the next recession or depression or what ever name they give it then doesn't hurt or affect you. You think the world should be able to stop it from happening, but there are to many people out there that greed is everything and thats why we are where we are right now! You can't contorl the world but you can contorl what you do. So be one of the smart ones.

How I see it!

The recession can be looked at from all kinds of angles, economy, business, money, housing, oil and gas. As I watch the news and read the papers, I see bad things happening all over the city. Friends and family losing jobs, houses, investments and it breaks my heart to see them go through all of this, But at the end of the day its just money! If your healthy and you have family and friends to support you in my eyes your a millionare and you just don't know it yet. Where people see a recession and all the bad things it has to offer, I see opportunity, first time home buyers are getting a great rate, investments are low costing, goveronment tax breaks are avalialbe. If you look past the fog, this is a prefect time to start building a foundation for your future. So you use to swing a hammer and now your selling them, maybe find a differet skill, take the time to learn something new for example be accounted or realtor or anything. If your willing to put in the time the money will come just be patent. My 63 year old good friend lost money on his investments and has nothing but two kids age 5 and 2 that he has to look after so instead of sitting there crying about it, he heard the government was giving house renavation credits. At 63 he started a Reno company, in the last two years he didn't make millions but he has made enough to get by and feed his kids. Who knows if he keeps getting jobs he can sell the company and retire.......again! So what ever the position your in if its not working get out and get her done!

My Little Brother

Just getting out of high school the door was wide open for my little brother, the economy was really strong in 2006. He had so many options to choose from like, going to work on the rigs like I did and go back to school in a year or two. Get into a trade and get his red seal, or just take it in stride and go where the wind takes him. With the economy so strong he couldn't make a mistake on what he choose. Fast forward to 2010 my little brother had moved out on his own only, to find himself back where he had started in 2006, living at home with no job. He bounce from trade to trade to see what he like but never settled in to one that he really enjoy. I try to help him out with odd ball jobs here and there to make ends meet, but now his friends also find themselves in trouble. With a future so promisng just 3 short years ago, now looks sacrey and unpredictable. The recession is not just about layoffs and job placement its also about breaking someone down from a high point to a very low point, but like I always tell me brother when ever there's a up hill there got to be a downhill.

Amount of People returning to school to choose a differnt path in life

Since the recession people in certain careers are turning to school to find a different career because the jobs in thier current career are very slim pickins. There are quite a few people in my classes that had to change careers because they lost thier jobs and couldnt find new ones. Nait is taking advantage of this influx of people and rising its tution costs. I think that its sad that people have to change their whole life path just because the government couldnt control their spending.

Air Lines trying to stay afloat with lower income families

I usually take 2 flights home each year to Nova Scotia. When i first flew out here it costed me 700 for a one way flight into edmonton and now i just flew home with my wife and it cost us together 700 round trip. Air lines are giving seat saver deals everyday now to try and intice people to travel more often because they are offering super cheap flights. It makes it a lot easier for students to fly because of such low prices and since students dont make that much money.

Retail stores feeling the slow down

I work at sears now and sales have gone way down since sears has high quaility in items in the furniture and major appliances departments are not moving anymore and now sears is taking drastic measures and reducing their prices by 40% on most things in the major departments because competitors are under cutting sears big time. If this keeps up ill be unemployed and then ill lose my house and if that happens ill have to move back east.

Hospital

My girlfriend works at the University Of Alberta Hospital in the Stollery level 4. Since the recession started in Edmonton at the end of 2008 beginning of 2009 the hospital had to do a complete over haul, from top management to nurses to cleaning staff. There were layoffs in management and a new business strategy was put into action. Now being 2010 the makeover is complete, with new mangers and staff the workloads is greater, all because of the recession.
